I think it's going to be fairly easy to make the movements for this character, but obviously there's not going to be any dialogue in the film, just actions. So, in the story, the mannequin guy, who is an avid dancer, shows off his dancing skills. This annoys the guy in the drawing, who tries to out-dance the mannequin. And, yeah, that's the gist of it. Hopefully it'll make more sense when I continue to build up ideas. I'll post a character mind map of the mannequin guy, soon.
I'm not actually sure how to make the guy in the drawing move, because it will be time-consuming. Unless I use Adobe Flash to animate it. Hmmm. Ideas?
Hey Patty,
ReplyDeleteGood to see you getting your blog happening. This all sounds really good and has the potential to be an awesome finished piece.
So, while you're in the planning stages, here are some things to consider:
1. you've just explained the storyline in your blog, but without your explanation, is it going to be clear in the finished product to the audience? How are they going to know what's going on? You might want to use narration? Have you ever played or seen the game Little Big Planet on the PS3? It's narrated by Stephen Fry, a famous British actor and comedian. You can check out an example of it here:

Maybe this style and tone of narration might go well with your animation. These are just ideas that I'm throwing out there, so don't feel like you have to take any of these on board.
Secondly, it's really important that when you film the stop motion stuff with your mannequin, that you light it with proper lights (which you can borrow from Media, or you can bring the mannequin along and do your stop motion in class). This will give you more consistency with the lighting, rather than just using the natural light that's in whatever room you use. There will be differences in shade and tone, etc. and it will look dodgy.
Thirdly, one thing you might want to do for your dancing guy who's animated is draw and move the animation in Flash. You could film the stop motion of the mannequin, leaving enough room in the shot for the animated character that you add later. Then, once the stop motion's done, you can just import the footage into Flash and animate your dancer directly onto the footage.
Just a few ideas anyway. Keep blogging and let me know how you're going, or ask questions if you have any.
I'm excited about this one. It could be great.
Cheers,
Mr Hall
Oh, ok. Thanks Mr. Hall! I'll definitely keep that in mind. Yes, I have heard of Little Big Planet and Stephen Fry, and I watched the video. It gave me a clear idea of how I can improve my film, so thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yeah, I'll just animate the dancing guy in Flash, it sounds a lot more easier. So, I'm hoping it all works out smoothly. Thanks again. :)
